Lifetime China Company had a relationship with several Potteries in the the Ohio River valley - including Homer Laughlin.  Best described as a type of Sub-contractor or Marketing companies, they would buy "blanks" from the larger companies and apply a decorative decal by hand and over-stamp the piece with their special back stamp.  Quite of a few of their patterns are highly sought after and valuable.
One nice advantage to the collector today is the fact that these over-stamps usually had the name of the pattern included within the stamp which provides a handy reference for the admirer and it is right there on the back of the dish...
There were several variations of the over-stamp including Lifetime, Century Service Corporation, and Cunningham & Pickett.
