    Description

    An early version of the United States Army pilot wing at the split with the United States Air Force in the late 1940s.  Die struck - 2 1/2 inches across in size.  Maker marked on the reverse side "VANGUARD N.Y.".  Pin back with a roll locking pin catch.  There early types tend to have a domed center shield.  The star was die struck at the same time - in the same die - not applied.
